What is the Future of History in Victoria?

History can best be told by the descendants of those who lived it. It is inevitable that there will be different perspectives.

The $40M Future of History Project will be a purpose-built maritime cultural centre. It will juxtapose the lived experiences of those who came to this coast in the past 250 years and that of the Lekwungen Peoples, living here since time immemorial. Visitors to the shared Future of History experience will engage in meaningful learning opportunities and gain a respectful understanding of the past - that can be the shared foundation for the future of history.

Angus Matthews is a volunteer director on the board of a new social enterprise corporation that is jointly owned and governed by Xʷsepsəm (Esquimalt) Nation, the Maritime Museum of BC Society, and Songhees Nation. Angus will outline the foundational concept, site plans, financial model, projected timeline, and current status of the proposal.

Questions and comments will be welcome.
