Membership Director Doug Ozeroff led the induction of Gordon Plewes, a member transferring from the Victoria Club. Gordon was born in Toronto, immigrated to Edmonton where he was raised and educated, graduating from the University of Alberta. He practiced law in the city for 36 years, ending his practice as a partner in the national law firm now known as internationally as Dentons LLP. Gord retired to Victoria in 2010.
Gordon’s practice consisted of all areas of corporate/commercial law, including business consultation and advisory matters, business organization and taxation, and the buying and selling of business enterprises.
He was fortunate to have the opportunity of serving on several boards of various non-profit organizations in social, community, health and public areas. Among others, he was active with the redevelopment of the Art Gallery of Alberta as secretary, and Chairman of the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce. He served as the president of the Edmonton and Canadian Lung Associations and had the pleasure of serving on the boards of the Derrick Golf and Winter Club in Edmonton and the Uplands Golf Club here in Victoria.
After being a member of the Kinsmen Club of Edmonton, Gord joined the Rotary Club of Edmonton South in 1993 and served as its president in 2007/08. On retirement he transferred to the Rotary Club of Victoria and served as its treasurer for four years.
Gord is married to Joy-Anne; they have two children and five grandchildren living in Edmonton. His principal object in life is now the reduction of his golf handicap, though success is continuing to elude him.

As Gordon’s sponsor, Ann Moskow administered the pledge for a transferring member and extended the right hand of Rotary fellowship.
