Lessons learned from Tents in Park through the winter

Gordon Miller, Director of Communication and Neighbourhood Engagement at James Bay United Church and former Harboursider (1992 through 2010) will be joining us on Wednesday to give a short presentation about lessons learned walking alongside the unhoused in Meegan and Irving parks over the last year’ and the Housing First model they have been advocating and pursuing at James Bay United Church. It is a unique perspective from inside the park encampment, getting to know the unhoused there and some of the challenges they face. James Bay United Church was an advocate and supporter of the temporary Community Care Tent (on Cook St.) and opened the church’s doors during the winter's coldest weather, as an emergency overnight warming shelter.

Gordon says he offers a perspective and some learnings to provoke conversation - no pat answers or politicized opinions.
