President Murray called on Wayne Shillington to lead the induction. Murray mostly read, with some ad libbing the introduction.

Kathy was born and raised in St. John’s, NL.

Growing up, sports were a big part of her life. She was her High School’s athlete of the year.

She graduated from Memorial University of Newfoundland with a BPE and a B.Ed. While at Memorial she was a varsity player in basketball and field hockey.

Kathy was on the Newfoundland Summer Games Field Hockey Team, which is how she met Murray (Editor’s note: He actually referred to himself as a handsome, dashing man which would later precipitate a fine) who was a member of the sailing team. Since Murray was passionate about sailing, Kathy added sailing to her list of sports.

Kathy and Murray moved to Sydney, NS after graduation where Kathy took on the role of Executive Director of the YMCA.

Next stop was Kitchener-Waterloo, where Kathy was Executive Director of the YWCA. Shortly after the birth of our first daughter, Jillian, the family left K-W for the wild west. Calgary; where our second daughter, Jennifer was born.

In Calgary, Kathy worked as a recreation consultant before starting her own business as a home stager.

While living in Alberta, Kathy became an avid skier. She took up downhill skiing and revived her past interest in what our daughters called “uphill” skiing. You might know it as Nordic or cross-country Skiing.

Kathy and Murray took a year off work in 1997-98 to sail to the Caribbean and back with our daughters who were 9 and 11 at the time.

Kathy played in a women’s field hockey league in Calgary and continues to travel and play with that team. With the team, she has travelled to Fiji, Holland, Argentina and coming up in March, South Africa—where she plans to hang up her cleats for good.

In Victoria, Kathy is, of course, Co-president of Serenity Home Care. Her spare time is spent golfing, sailing and cycling.

Kathy has always participated in the Harbourside fundraisers. When she heard that the Garage Sale was in need of a new leader, she was more than a little interested and decided to jump in with both feet.

Lisa Collins performed the formal induction, President Murray gave Kathy her Rotary pin, and a kiss.
