Remembrance Day/Piper's Auction Program
Remembrance Day
In recognition of Remembrance Day coming up on November 11th, the meeting began with Tom Martin playing a recording of the Last Post while Jim Warr recited the Ode to Remembrance as our Invocation. Two minutes of silence were held in memory of those in the Armed Forces who gave their lives for our country.
Pipers Auction
Our semi-annual Pipers Auction was held to raise funds for the Rotary International Foundation. This event is held twice a year with a club target of $20,000 to be raised. To date, Harbourside Rotary has donated $582,000 to the Rotary Foundation for their international programs. Ably supported by Doug Lunam and Jeff Moses, our esteemed auctioneer, Wayne Ford, cajoled and persuaded 20 Rotarians into donating $8,964 to RI. A great job again by Mr. Ford and as well, 5 new Paul Harris Fellow Awards were achieved.
Additional funds were raised by auctioning 4 $25.00 gift certificates to Il Terrazo courtesy of Shelly Gudgeon. Reid James of the Grand Pacific Hotel donated a room for auction. He later upgraded that to a suite plus dinner. It was purchased under the condition that Wayne Ford wasn't part of the prize package.
Finally, a bottle of Crown Royal was auctioned off and Tom Martin was the lucky recipient.
